After today's bombings in Jakarta I just thought I needed to post some personal comments.
Our eldest son was in Jakarta this morning and had planned to attend a breakfast meeting at one of the bombed hotels. So this is pretty close to home for me.
He is fine and well the meeting had been canceled at the last minute.
I traveled through Indonesia in the 1970s and found Indonesians to be enormously friendly kind and hospitable. I was regularly invited into homes and offered cold drinks or meals with families. I have often wondered how many Australian families would do this if they saw a young Indonesian wandering past their homes?
Talking to my son today he confirmed that the general population of Indonesians have not changed, they remain incredibly friendly welcoming and hospitable. The want nothing to do with violence or extremism in any way shape or form. They are deeply shamed and embarrassed by the actions of these few criminals.
I was glad to hear that some 30 years later thing have not really changed that much. I am also in email contact with a few Indonesian Photographers and I am getting the same information from them.
Most people in the world are good kind honest and friendly. Sadly the few bad people seem to attract far more attention than the vast majority of good people.
End of rant
It has been a long day I am terribly sorry for those who lost loved ones , I am glad for us it ended well. _________________ Holden Rodeo twin tub ( Isuzu ) 3lt td, ABS, Bull bar, LSD rear, ARB Locker front, snorkel, DP Power chip, Raw Nitro shocks, EFS HD Torsion bar, EFS 40mm lift, Poly air 700kg bags rear. |

Such a tiny minority too
Even the Indonesian soldiers who pointed guns at us when we staggered back into the compound drunk as skunks at ungodly hours in the morning laughed and had great fun scaring the living *&^*&^% out of us
Nothing sobers you up faster than hearing a machine gun bolt slap home somewhere ahead in total darkness.......... followed by a giggle "how are you ? Did you have a good night out ? Giggle _________________ Holden Rodeo twin tub ( Isuzu ) 3lt td, ABS, Bull bar, LSD rear, ARB Locker front, snorkel, DP Power chip, Raw Nitro shocks, EFS HD Torsion bar, EFS 40mm lift, Poly air 700kg bags rear. |

Must have been an inside job. I have stayed there twice and to get in you have to pass the initial roadblock on the street and then the personal check (ie: airport type scan) to get into the lobby.
They will find them.
Such a waste. |

Sorry I know that is a very tempting option but these people are criminals and need to be brought to justice by the law not by knee jerk reactions.
The world would be a far safer place if the 9/11 attacks were treated as a criminal act rather than a reason to invade Iraq.
Terrorists want overreaction so they can become martyrs, I would not seek the death penalty for any terrorist, I would prefer to see them grow old inside a jail. _________________ Holden Rodeo twin tub ( Isuzu ) 3lt td, ABS, Bull bar, LSD rear, ARB Locker front, snorkel, DP Power chip, Raw Nitro shocks, EFS HD Torsion bar, EFS 40mm lift, Poly air 700kg bags rear. |
